When looking for a financial advisor, beware of signs that they are more interested in giving you sales pitches than helping plan your financial future. We’ll share things to watch out for when selecting a professional to help with your money and tell you more about the planning process we utilize with clients.
On today’s Saving With Silverman podcast, Mark Silverman CFP® shares some signs to watch out for when selecting a financial advisor and how to pick an advisor who is the right fit.
It’s important to be able to recognize the difference between an advisor who actually has a planning process and one who just gives sales pitches all day. A lot of advisors are really financial salespeople in disguise.
At our office, we want to understand our clients and get to know them and what they need. That’s not for everybody. Some people just want to be sold a product, whether that’s an annuity or some hot stock tip. That’s not what we do.
When someone reaches out to us for the first time, we’ll schedule a 15-minute introductory phone call. We answer your questions and get background from you and give some advice. If we seem to be on the same page, we’ll invite you to the office for a get-acquainted meeting and go into further details.
By the end of the process, you’ll have a complete financial life plan that we’ve put together for you that is fully customized, including an analysis of your risks, fees, taxes, Social Security, insurance and more.
We are constantly evolving and are big fans of technology. We are continuing to adapt and find better ways to serve clients. At our office, we do things differently. We really know our clients, and we can be independent and totally objective.
Are we a great fit for everybody? No, but we are great at helping the clients we serve. We try to help everybody we can. If you’re not a good fit, we can point you in the right direction.
